What is a DNS transfer?

Transferring your DNS (Domain Name Server) points your existing domain to a new host
without changing the registrar. When transferring to 1&1, change your DNS settings
to these 1&1 name servers:

ns57.1and1.com
ns58.1and1.com

DNS propagation takes about 24-48* hours.

Note: You should use the above DNS only to host the domain with 1&1. Other
name servers are not allowed, even as backup.

'External' refers to a domain that is registered with a company other than 1&1.
You can point external domains to 1&1 name servers in order to use 1&1 hosting
services.

How do I point to 1&1 name servers?

*The Domain Name System consists of tens of thousands of databases that
all need to be updated with your new name server information. This
process may take up to 48 hours to complete, although normally this
takes about 24 hours.
