DNS transfer (external domain)
Article #6
How do I point to 1&1 name servers?Note: If a domain name is held within a 1&1 account, either as a registered domain with 1&1, or as an external DNS point to 1&1, it can not be setup in another account or contract as a DNS point.
Given that the above is noted, and that the domain name is not already within our databases, you can follow the below to add a domain name externally as a DNS point to your 1&1 hosting services. To execute a DNS transfer (pointing to 1&1 name servers), please follow these instructions: 1. Log in to the 1&1 Control Panel at: https://admin.1and1.com If you have only one package, you will land on the Administration page. If you have more than one package, select the relevant package to reach its Administration page. 2. Select Domains from the Basic Settings section. ![]() 3. Click New. ![]() 4. Enter the name of the domain you wish to point to 1&1 name servers and click Check Domain. ![]() 5. Select Point your domain to 1&1 name servers and keep your current Registrar, and click Next. ![]() 6. If your domain has any mail servers, they will be displayed. Otherwise, you will see the message "We could not retrieve your mail server data from the current name server of your domain". 1&1 mail servers are automatically assigned. Click Next. ![]() 7. The page will display 1&1 name server info. Please provide this to your current registrar and request that they switch your domain to 1&1 name servers. ![]() Note: You should use the above DNS only to host the domain with 1&1. Other DNS (name servers) are not allowed, even as backup. |
