Important information for registering .us domains


To register a .us domain, you will need to make the following declarations:

1. Declaration of Application Purpose

Category Description
P1 Business use (for profit)
P2 Non-Profit business, club, association, religious organization
P3 Personal Use
P4 Educational purposes
P5 Government purposes


2. Declaration of Nexus Requirements

Only those individuals or organizations that have a substantive lawful connection in
the United States are permitted to register .us domain names. To register a .us
domain, you must satisfy the following Nexus requirements:

1 U.S. citizenship, or
Permanent residency in the U.S.
2 An entity or organization that is (i) Incorporated within one of the fifty U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or any U.S. possessions or territories (ii) Organized or otherwise constituted under the laws of a state of the U.S., the District of Columbia or any of its possessions and territories (including federal, state, or local government of the U.S., or a political subdivision thereof, and non-commercial organizations based in the U.S.)
3 A foreign organization that regularly engages in lawful activities (sales of goods or services or other business, commercial, or non-commercial, including non-profit relations) in the United States.
An organization with an office or other facility in the U.S., where cc reflects the two-letter country code of the organization.


The name server of a .us domain must be physically located in the U.S. When a .us
domain is registered, name servers located in U.S. are assigned to the domain by
default.

If you want to change the DNS of a .us domain, you will need to confirm that the new
name server is located in the U.S.
