How do I unzip ".tgz/.gz" files?

.tgz means .tar.gz, which means that the file is a 'tar' (Tape ARchive) file that
has been gzipped.

1. You will have to download and install a tool called WinRAR.
You can download WinRAR from: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

If you are on a Windows OS download "WinRAR 3.50"
If you are on a Mac OS download "RAR 3.50 for MacOS X"
(Note: After the trial period is over, you may need to purchase the software)

2. Run the WinRAR Program.

3. Click File -> Open Archive.
winRAR1

4. Browse to the location where you have .tgz/.gz file. Choose the file and click Open.
winRAR2

5. Select the file and click Extract To.
winRAR3

6. Choose the location where you want the extracted file saved. Click OK.
winRAR4

7. The file is extracted. Now you can view that file using Notepad/Wordpad.
